Vetting a YouTube creator before a partnership: audience metrics and content.

Audience analytics platforms (Modash, HypeAuditor, Kolsquare) tell you if the followers are real and what the engagement rate is. Unsaid reads every YouTube video: who funds the creator, what is — or isn't — disclosed, and which categories are covered by regulation. Two different readings, for a complete decision.

Two types of information, two tools

Before signing an influencer partnership, marketing teams typically check audience quality: size, engagement rate, demographic breakdown, fake follower detection. Influencer analytics platforms do this very well.

What they don't do — and it's not their purpose — is read the videos. Find out whether the creator has already promoted a direct competitor. Whether a past partnership was not disclosed as advertising. Whether the creator's usual topics are compatible with your brand. Whether mentions touch categories covered by EU or national consumer protection regulation.

What you check Audience tools Unsaid
Follower count, growth, engagement rate✓—
Fake followers, audience fraud detection✓—
Audience demographic data✓—
All funders across every video—✓
Partnerships with no visible disclosure (to verify)—✓
Legally regulated categories (gambling, crypto, health…)—✓
Unsourced claims, timestamped—✓
Usual topics and what has changed—✓

Combining both readings is the approach used by compliance teams and agencies working with exposed brands: verify the audience and read what the creator has actually said.

What an Unsaid audit reads

The audit reads all public YouTube videos from the creator (up to 3,000) and produces a printable report on a private, non-indexed link. In one minute, with no manual viewing.

  • All funders: named sponsors, affiliate links, promo codes, the creator's own products — with the number of videos and the time period for each.
  • Partnerships with no visible disclosure: a link or sponsor in the description, without a written "ad" or "paid partnership" label, and without the YouTube "Includes paid promotion" checkbox ticked. Each case links to the video and is flagged to verify — the mention may have been made verbally.
  • Legally regulated categories: gambling, crypto-assets, financial products, health and supplements, cosmetic procedures, nicotine, alcohol. Flagged and listed, with the video.
  • Topics, recurring themes, and changes: new sponsors, new subjects covered, products launched.
  • Unsourced claims from videos analysed in detail, with their timestamp.

What it is not

Not a legal opinion, not a judgment of the creator. An automated reading of what is public, with every point sourced and linked to the video for one-click verification. YouTube only for now.

Under French law n° 2023-451 of 9 June 2023, the advertiser, the agent and the influencer are jointly liable for damages caused to consumers under an influencer contract. What the creator has — or has not — disclosed in their videos is part of the partnership file.
